Pierre robin syndrome

(Pierre Robin, 1867 - 1950, French dental surgeon), micrognathia with upper airways obstruction caused by the tongue which, though normal in size, is disproportionate and impedes normal ventilation, with or without an associated cleft palate. Radiologically, the severe micrognathia and hypoplasia of the mandible is demonstrable, both on a lateral skull radiograph and on CT three-dimensional reconstruction. There are numerous associations of the Robin syndrome, which may also have radiological manifestations.
