Mandible, cyst

Dentigerous cyst is the most common cyst in the mandible. It has a well defined selerotic margin and contains an ectopic tooth. There is an association with the Gorlin (basal cell naevus) syndrome.

Radicular cyst is an abscess cavity around a tooth root and is often small with indistinct margins.

Multilocular cysts include fibrous dysplasia, the commonest cause of multilocular cysts in the mandible, aneurysmal bone cysts and giant cell tumours. Also, see Dentigerous cyst and odontogenic cyst
