Lordosis

curvature of the spine in the sagittal plane with anterior convexity. Lordosis is normal in the cervical and lumbar spine. Excessive cervical lordosis may occur post laminectomy. Thoracic lordosis is usually a congenital abnormality. Excessive lumbosacral lordosis may be postural or structural. Postural lumbar lordosis refers to accentuated lumbar lordosis with no fixed deformity and full correction on forward flexion. This condition is typically seen in 810 year old girls and may be associated with ligamentous laxity. Management is with reassurance that the posture will resolve with time. Structural causes of increased lumbar lordosis include achondroplasia, fixed flexion deformity of the hip, neuromuscular scoliosis and post laminectomy.
