Hyperinflation

area of lung where the lung volume is greater than normal for a given amount of inspiratory effort. In the affected lung there is increased transradiancy and a reduction in the size and number of lung markings seen. Hyperinflation may occur when a large airway is partially obstructed, e.g. congenital lobar emphysema, atresia bronchial or mucous plug in asthma.
