Dentigerous cyst

jaw cyst, formed by degeneration of the enamel organ of a tooth prior to its eruption, located in the expected position of the tooth's crown (Fig.1). The cyst may enlarge during childhood resulting in radiographic lucency and thinning of the overlying cortex of the mandible or maxilla. Presentation may be with swelling, pain or secondary infection of cyst contents. Also, see odontogenic cyst.
