Bladder sphincter dyssynergia

(also called non-neurogenic neurogenic bladder), a condition where the contraction of the bladder musculature is not coordinated with the relaxation of the sphincter (Fig.1). Patients have daytime and night time wetting and often have a history of urinary tract infections. On cystography there is an irregular appearance of the bladder outline due to muscular contraction against the unrelaxed bladder sphincter. MRI of the spine to exclude a spinal cause is suggested by many. Urodynamic studies confirms the condition showing reduced urinary flow. The cause of the condition is unknown.
