Y-shaped configuration of the malleoincudal articulation on a coronal CT image in case of lateral displacement of the incus (Fig.1). This sign may be present even when the axial CT images show a normal malleoincudal articulation.

Axial CT images of temporal bones. Longitudinal fracture of the right temporal bone. Slight separation of the malleoincudal articulation is suspected (arrow, a). Compare with left side (b). The coronal image of the right temporal bone shows Y-shaped configuration of malleus and incus (arrow, c). Compare with left side (d).
