Head and Neck Imaging

Warthin's tumour

(Aldred Scott Warthin, 1866-1931, American pathologist) (also called adenolymphoma or papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum), benign parotid gland tumour, accounting for about 5-10% of all parotid neoplasms. It is seen most often in the tail of the parotid gland, but also occurs in extraparotid lymph nodes. It may be multiple and is bilateral in about 10% of cases. In about 30% of cases, cystic changes occur.
On imaging, it appears as a well circumscribed soft tissue lesion, often showing cystic changes (Fig. 1). The bilaterality or presence of multiple lesions is helpful in arriving at the correct diagnosis.
