(Henry Jones Shrapnell, 1761 - 1841, English anatomist and army surgeon), the upper, somewhat thicker and more flaccid part of the tympanic membrane, between the scutum and the lateral process of the malleus. Acquired cholesteatoma often originates at Shrapnell's membrane.
