Rosenmuller's fossa

(Johann Christian Rosenmuller, 1771 - 1820, German anatomist), nasopharyngeal recess, situated behind the torus tubarius. In normal circumstances, the fossae of Rosenmuller appear symmetrical on cross-sectional imaging. In children and young adults, they may appear obliterated by lymphoid tissue of the pharyngeal tonsil. The fossa of Rosenmuller is the most common point of origin for nasopharyngeal cancer (see nasopharynx cancer).
