Pharyngitis

inflammation of the pharynx, by bacterial, viral or fungal infection. The symptoms are sore throat, fever and painful swallowing (odynophagia). Imaging is required when there is clinical suspicion of abscess formation (see abscess peritonsillar; retropharyngeal space).
