Head and Neck ImagingOssifying fibroma, head and neck
benign tumour composed of fibrous tissue and containing bone or osteoid. There is some controversy as to whether it is a separate entity or a variant of
fibrous dysplasia head and neck. Ossifying fibroma contains lamellar bone rather than woven bone as in fibrous dysplasia. It is also more localized, showing a sclerotic margin. Fibrous dysplasia by contrast appears as a less well defined area of abnormal bone. Ossifying fibroma gradually ossifies with maturation. In the head and neck region, it may be seen in the mandible, sinonasal region and
temporal bone.
