Head and Neck Imaging

Nodular fasciitis

benign fibroblastic proliferation of unknown aetiology. The rapid growth, high cellularity and mitotic activity may mimic a sarcoma. In some cases, a recent trauma is the triggering cause. Between 7 and 20% of cases are seen in the head and neck region, usually in the subcutaneous tissues overlying bony prominences, such as the mandibular angle and inferior margin of the mandibular body, and the zygomatic arches.

Radiologically, nodular fasciitis appears as a round to oval soft tissue mass, usually measuring between 1 and 4 cm, without specific tissue characteristics on CT or MRI.
