Mnire's disease

(Prosper Mnire,1799-1862, French physician), disease characterized by repeated attacks of vertigo , nausea, a feeling of fullness in the ear and sensorineural hearing loss . Tinnitus may be an early symptom. Mnire's disease is generally believed to be caused by a dysfunction in endolymph homeostasis, leading to endolymphatic hydrops. Radiologically, in Mèniere's disease the vestibular aqueduct overall seems to appear narrower and shorter, with lack of periaqueductal pneumatization, compared to a control population. However, an important variability has been observed. In these patients, imaging is mainly used to exclude other disorders.
