Middle ear

1. Anatomy

air-filled cleft in the petrous bone, separated from the external ear by the tympanic membrane. The middle ear contains the ossicular chain and communicates with the nasopharynx by means of the eustachian tube. The mastoid cells communicate via the aditus ad antrum with the middle ear.
