surgical resection of the maxilla. If the maxilla is thought of as a box, and all the bony walls are removed, the procedure is called a total maxillectomy. A partial maxillectomy is performed if one or more of the bony walls is preserved. Resection of all antral walls, with inclusion of adjacent structures, is called a radical maxillectomy.
Postoperative imaging shows a clearly defined cavity; recurrent disease presents as a soft tissue mass and/or further bone erosion. (Fig.1).
