Head and Neck ImagingMalignant melanoma, head and neck
malignant neoplasm, derived from cells that are capable of forming melanin. Primary head and neck
malignant melanoma is uncommon. It may arise from the skin or from the
mucosa. Melanoma arising from the scalp may present with intraparotid adenopathies. In the head and neck region, mucosal melanoma occurs most frequently in the sinonasal cavities, with preference for the nasal cavity; local spread is similar to other cancers in this region (see
sinonasal cavities cancer).
