Head and Neck ImagingLollipop injury
oropharyngeal injury in children, usually caused by a fall with a foreign body in the mouth (lollipop, pencil, toothbrush, etc.). The injury may be blunt or lacerating. Retropharyngeal abscess or significant pneumomediastinum are rarely seen. Lateral oropharyngeal injuries require increased concern as to potential neurovascular impairment: the vessels and nerves in the upper
carotid space may have been compressed between the foreign body and
cervical spine.
