Kallmann's syndrome

(Franz Josef Kallmann, 1897-1965, German-born American psychiatrist), congenital disorder characterized by the association of hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism with anosmia. The anosmia is due to aplasia of the olfactory bulbs and variable developmental failure of the olfactory lobes. The other features of the syndrome are more variable, and consist of colour blindness, high-arched palate, cleft lip and palate, synkinesia, mental deficiency and sensorineural hearing loss .
MRI of the anterior cranial fossa nearly always shows absence of the olfactory bulbs; the olfactory lobes may appear normal or rudimentary or be absent. CT of the temporal bones has been described as showing slender internal auditory canals, with normal appearing cochlea and vestibulum present but no semicircular canals visible.
