cyst, derived from epithelial remnants entrapped along the fusion line of embryonic processes. In the head and neck, this name is used for cysts in the fusion lines of the frontonasal and maxillary process. These cysts are classified according to their anatomical localization. Midline cysts arising from embryonic epithelial rests in the nasopalatine canal are the most common; these are called
nasopalatine cysts. The lateral cysts are known (from exterior to interior) as: nasolabial cysts, nasoalveolar cysts and
globulomaxillary cysts.
