Danger space

virtual space just in front of the cervical spine, between the dedoubled deep layer of the deep cervical fascia (see cervical fascias). This space extends from the skull base to the mediastinum, allowing craniocaudal spread of disease. Radiographically, pathology within this danger space cannot be distinguished from retropharyngeal space pathology.
