Head and Neck ImagingConductive hearing loss
hearing loss caused by interference with sound transmission in the external auditory canal or
middle ear. The aetiology of conductive hearing loss is very diverse, and may be
congenital (e.g. malformation or atresia of the external auditory canal, malformation of the ossicles), inflammatory (e.g. otitis media,
cholesteatoma), postinflammatory (e.g.
tympanosclerosis), traumatic (disruption of
ossicular chain, posttraumatic
stenosis of external auditory canal),
otosclerosis, osteodysplastic (e.g.
fibrous dysplasia head and neck), or tumoral (e.g. external auditory canal
carcinoma,
nasopharynx cancer with secondary otitis serosa).
