Chondrosarcoma, head and neck

malignant neoplasm derived from cartilage cells. For a general description, see chondrosarcoma. In the head and neck, they are seen originating from the jaw bones, sinonasal region (usually naso-ethmoidal), skull base, larynx and trachea (Fig.1). The distinctive feature of these tumours is a mass containing scattered calcifications, as visible on CT. On MRI they usually display low signal on T1-weighted and high signal on T2-weighted sequences; they may show enhancement.
