Head and Neck Imaging
Adenocarcinoma, head and neck
malignant
neoplasm
of epithelial cells in
glandular
or glandlike pattern. Adenocarcinomas are those
glandular
malignancies that cannot be placed within another more definable class of
tumour
, such as
acinic cell carcinoma
,
mucoepidermoid carcinoma
or
adenoid cystic carcinoma
. They have a pronounced predilection for the ethmoid sinuses and the superior part of the nasal cavity (see
sinonasal cavities cancer
). About 15% of the
malignant
tumours in the
parotid gland
correspond to adenocarcinoma. It is rarely seen in other head and neck sites.
