NeuroradiologySchmorl's node
(Christian Georg Schmorl, 18611932, German pathologist), a radiological radiolucent lesion within the vertebral body surrounded by a sclerotic rim, due to protrusion of disc material through the cartilagineous end plate. Usually asymptomatic, it is well demonstrated by plain films and CT. It may, however, be associated with diseases that lead to weakening of the cartilagineous endplate or subcondral bone of the vertebral body. Also, see Schmorls node.
