NeuroradiologyRetinopathy of prematurity
retinal disease observed as a result of oxygen intensive therapy in premature infants, consisting of abnormal retinal
vascular proliferation. In the most severe cases, this may cause retinal detachment, subretinal and vitreous
haemorrhage and may result in the formation of a retrolental vitreous membrane (retrolental fibroplasia) and in arrested development of the eye with consequent microphthalmia. Retrolental fibroplasia is included in the differential diagnosis of retinoblastoma.
