NeuroradiologyRetinal hamartoma
benign vascular lesion representing the most common ocular manifestation of tuberous sclerosis and occasionally observed in other phakomatoses. It consists of an astrocytic
proliferation that is most commonly seen on or near the optic
disk. Often bilateral, they start as flat semitransparent whitish spots which later assume a more
nodular appearance that has been compared to a clump of mulberries. On
CT scan small calcifications may be depicted in the region of the optic nerve head.
