Oxytocin

neurohypophyseal hormone, that together with vasopressin is stored, but not secreted, within the posterior pituitary (neurohypophysis). They are both secreted by the neurones of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus. Neurophysins carry the hormones within the posterior pituitary through axons within the pituitary stalk. Neurophysins are thought to be responsible for the T1 hyperintensity of this portion of the pituitary (see bright spot). Oxytocin is involved in the processes of delivery and vasopressin (ADH - Antidiuretic hormones) regulates the metabolism of fluids and water intake.
