(from Greek "white pupil"), the white appearance assumed by the pupil when a
lesion of the posterior wall of the globe or of the vitreous humour causes a reflection of the light. In the child leukokoria is often the only sign of important lesions of the globe such as retinoblastoma. An overview of the most important causes of leukokoria is given in Table 1.
