Neuroradiology

Ganglioglioma, spinal

Gangliogliomas are rare tumors, representing 3.8% of all central nervous system. One third of the gangliogliomas are seen in children (image 1), of which spinal cord involvement (1.7%) is greater than cerebral (1.4%) or cerebellar (0.7%) involvement. The upper cervical cord was involved in all of our cases, and in no case could radical tumor resection be accomplished.

Histology

Ganglioglioma is a benign tumor composed of neoplastic astrocytes and ganglion cells (images 3 - 4). Ganglion cells (neurons) are immunopositive for Neuron Specific Enolase (NSE) (image 2).
