NeuroradiologyEpendymitis granularis
MR finding consisting of symmetrical foci of periventricular T2 hyperintensity anterior and lateral to the frontal horns.
They may be very small, punctate or reach about 1 cm in diameter. They are grossly triangular in shape, and extend from the genu of the corpus callosum laterally to the white matter and posteriorly to the head of the caudate.
The term refers to a focal breakdown of the ependymal lining with adjacent astrocytic gliosis; in this area the periependymal and extracellular fluid of the brain preferentially drains to the subependymal region.
