tumour of the pineal region (see
pineal region tumour) devoid of specific characteristics on imaging studies as compared to other germ cell tumours. Prior to
biopsy the diagnosis may be suspected clinically on the basis of CSF analysis of
tumour markers. Embryonal cell
carcinoma expresses both alpha-fetoprotein and the beta subunit of beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (-HCG).
