NeuroradiologyEmbolization, in spinal cord arteriovenous malformation
Both
spinal cord arteriovenous malformations in their different forms and spinal cord
dural arteriovenous fistula may be treated by an endovascular approach. Different techniques and materials are available. Glue, or isobutyl cyanoacrylate, is the most effective agent and may be used by intranidal deposition following selective catheterization of the feeding pedicles. Particles may be safer in situations where the nidus cannot be penetrated or when embolizing an anterior spinal
artery. Detachable balloons and coils (see
coil endovascular) are indicated in rare cases of large direct pial arteriovenous fistulae.
