NeuroradiologyDevic's syndrome
(Eugene Devic, 1869 - 1930, French physician) (also called neuromyelitis optica), the association of transverse myelitis and optic neuritis. Severe optic nerve and spinal cord demyelination appear at approximately the same time with acute onset and dominate the clinical picture. Often, the symptoms and signs are not in complete isolation, but are part of a more generalized disorder. About one half of these patients die within several months. Although multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common disease underlying this condition, Devic's syndrome may be associated with viral diseases.
