Cholesteatoma

chronic inflammatory condition of the middle ear, best demonstrated by CT. The middle ear cavity is filled with isodense material, erosion of the scutum or ossicles may be found, as well as expansion of the attic. Erosion of the lateral bony margin of the horizontal semicircular canal is particularly important.

In the earlier radiological literature, the term was used inaccurately to include epidermoid tumour and dermoid tumour.
