Thyrotoxic heart disease

cardiac manifestations of excessive thyroid hormones, T3 and thyroxine. Hyperthyroidism is four to eight times more frequent in women with a peak incidence in the third and fourth decades. Thyrotoxicosis causes a high cardiac output state and can produce high output cardiac failure. It can produce hypertension. Chest X-ray may show pulmonary plethora and cardiomegaly. Echocardiography demonstrates increased cardiac output, systolic ejection rate and velocity, and extent of left ventricular wall motion and thickening.
