Cardiovascular ImagingPaget's disease, cardiac manifestation
(Sir James Paget, 1814 - 1899, British surgeon). This is a disorder of bone density occurring in the middle-aged and the elderly with a male predominance. An osteolytic phase is associated with increased vascularity of bones. A phase of bone replacement produces disordered trabeculation with increased thickness and density of affected bones. Because of the increased blood flow in the affected bones and overlying cutaneous tissue, cardiac output is increased and rarely high output heart failure occurs. Chest X-ray may show increased pulmonary vascularity and cardiomegaly indistinguishable from other high output states. For a general description of the disease, see Pagets disease.
