Klippel trenaunay weber syndrome

(Maurice Klippel, 1852 - 1942, French neurologist; Paul Trenaunay, 20th century, French physician; Frederick Parkes Weber, 1863 - 1962, English physician) syndrome consisting of cutaneous naevi of one lower extremity, ipsilateral varicose veins and hypertrophy of the limb. The deep veins may be hypoplastic or absent. Associated anomalies include polydactyly and syndactyly. Contrast X-ray or MR venography demonstrates the severity of the superficial varicose veins and hypoplastic or atretic deep veins. Because of the deficiency of the deep venous system, stripping of superficial varicose veins is contraindicated. Also, see Klippel Trenaunay Weber syndrome.
