Cardiomegaly

heart size exceeding normal dimensions. Cardiomegaly is usually initially identified by plain radiography. In adults, cardiomegaly is considered to be present if the ratio of the maximum cardiac diameter to the maximum thoracic dimension on a standard posteroanterior radiograph exceeds 0.50. This constitutes a cardiothoracic ratio greater than 0.50.
