dilatation of intralobular bronchioles because of surrounding fibrosis. In patients with honeycombing, bronchiolar dilatation contributes to the cystic appearance seen on HRCT. In fact, since honeycomb cysts are typically lined by bronchiolar epithelium, there may be considerable overlap between honeycombing and bronchiolectasis.
