Right pneumonectomy syndrome

refers to the compression of the distal trachea or left main bronchus by the marked shift of the mediastinum to the right side following pneumonectomy. This condition sometimes occurs years after the pneumonectomy. Patients develop symptoms of dyspnoea and recurrent pulmonary infections in the left lung. The narrowing of the central airway lumen resulting from the extrinsic compression by vertebra and vascular mediastinal structures is easily recognized on CT scans.
