Chest ImagingPlasmocytoma
a well-defined neoplastic
proliferation of plasma cells in the absence of a generalized plasma cell disorder. Plasmocytomas consist most often of an isolated expansile
osteolytic lesion of bone or a visceral or soft tissue mass. Rarely, these tumours are located in the lungs or proximal airways.
Pulmonary plasmocytomas present radiographically as a nodule or lobulated mass. Tracheal plasmocytoma may not be detected on the radiograph and are seen as a
focal polypoid lesion on
CT. Endobronchial plasmotycomas can cause atelectasis or obstructive pneumonitis. Ossification may occasionally be present.
Pleural effusion is rare.
