Chest ImagingNecrobiotic nodule
subcutaneous and lung nodules associated with
rheumatoid lung disease. They consist of palisading epithelioid cells surrounding a region of central necrosis. In the lung, they tend to be peripheral in location, are variable in size, often appearing masslike, and frequently cavitate. They wax and wane in size, paralleling the course of subcutaneous nodules, and may become thin walled as they resolve. Although they are often asymptomatic, haemoptysis or
pneumothorax can result.
