Mediastinitis

inflammation of the mediastinum, most often infectious in aetiology. It may be acute or chronic. Acute mediastinitis is often the result of a bacterial infection. Chronic mediastinitis is more often related to a granulomatous infection such as histoplasmosis or tuberculosis.
