Hypereosinophilic syndrome

idiopathic eosinophilic syndrome characterized by the presence of:

  • significant eosinophilia for 6 months or more;

  • lack of evidence of parasitic, fungal, drug-related, or other cause of eosinophilia; and

  • multisystem involvement with tissue infiltration by relatively mature eosinophils.

    Organs typically involved include the heart, lungs, skin, liver, spleen and nervous system. Cardiac dysfunction is the primary cause of morbidity and mortality.
