Conglomerate masses
large
nodular
or mass-like opacities, in patients with diseases characterized by
small nodules
. They are common in
sarcoidosis
,
silicosis
and
coal workers pneumoconiosis
. Large masses of fibrous tissue may also surround and encompass bronchi and vessels within the central or parahilar lung in patients with progressive fibrotic lung disease, resulting in conglomerate masses. Bronchi within these masses may be crowded together and are usually dilated as a result of
fibrosis
and
traction bronchiectasis
(see
progressive massive fibrosis
).
