Chest ImagingChickenpox pneumonia
lung infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. The pneumonia is more frequent in adults than children but may occur at any age in immunosuppressed individuals. Patients usually present with high fever, severe rash, cough, dyspnoea and chest pain. The chest film demonstrates scattered, poorly marginated
nodules which may coalesce to produce areas of homogeneous
consolidation.
Hilar lymphadenopathy may be observed.
Pleural effusions are uncommon. When healed the nodules may appear as 1 3 mm
calcified irregular nodules.
