Urogenital ImagingUterus, arcuate
the mildest form of bicornuate uterus (see
uterus bicornuate). The term refers to a variant of uterine shape in which the fundus is saddle-shaped. The depth of the fundal depression can be assessed at hysterosalpingography by drawing a line through the tips of the uterine horns and measuring the perpendicular distance to the centre of the depression (
Fig.1). This distance is normally less than 1 cm. In an arcuate uterus, it is between 1.0 and 1.5 cm. A value greater than 1.5 cm suggests a bicornuate uterus. (The arcuate uterus is considered as a mild form of bicornuate uterus.) Similar findings are seen at
MRI. The condition is probably of no clinical significance, and can essentially be regarded as a normal variant.
