Urogenital ImagingAgenesis, seminal vesicles
absence of the seminal vesicles. This can be unilateral or bilateral. Unilateral agenesis is frequently associated with ipsilateral agenesis of the ductus deferens and with
renal agenesis. The contralateral seminal vesicle is often hypoplastic. Bilateral seminal vesicle agenesis is rare. On either endorectal
ultrasound or
MRI, the diagnosis is made when no seminal vesicle tissue can be found within the fibrous adipose tissue between the bladder base and the
rectum. On
MRI, agenesis of the seminal vesicles is best depicted on T1-weighted images, but for complete evaluation, both T1- and T2-weighted images are needed (
Fig.1).
