Urogenital ImagingAgenesis, prostatic
absence of the prostate.
Congenital agenesis of the prostate is defined as the absence of prostate tissue normally seen between the
rectum and
urethra. On cross-sectional imaging, either
ultrasound,
CT or
MRI, the diagnosis of
congenital agenesis of the prostate can be suggested. The most definitive diagnosis of
congenital absence of the prostate is offered by
MRI, due to excellent soft tissue contrast and direct
multiplanar imaging.
